History Of The Pin-Up - Part 1
62Why Pin-Up Art?
Why pin-up art you may ask?
Well the simple answer is that I hanker back to the days when men were men and ladies were ladies, a more innocent time in life. A woman could be unashamedly feminine and she didn't need to flash acres of flesh to captivate the boys!
Pin-up art reflects the beautiful female form in all its glory. Pin-up girls could be coy and sweet or beguiling and seductive. Bubbly blondes, sultry brunettes and alluring titian-haired beauties - they are all represented in pin-up art
To start with I'm posting a classic Gil Elvgren Pin-up who for me embodies then pin-up art genre - feminine, a little bit saucy and the kind of girl you'd like to get to know a bit better!
Elvgren is one of the most well-known and prolific of the pin-up artists with work being assigned to him from the 1930s to 1970s. He was indeed a master of the art producing many classic and iconic pin-up images.
